Summary
Director, Human Resources Salary to $130k + Bonus ( relo assistance ) Middleton, WI Position reports to: VP Human Resources and Administration
Responsible for overseeing the strategic alignment of Human Resources with the Operations division at Company as well as managing HR systems across Company. As a strategic business partner, provides input on business strategy as it relates to human capital and acting as a consultant on issues related to employee relations, performance management, training & development, and organizational structures. In addition, responsibilities include management of HR generalist team covering five locations, oversight of HR systems and processes for all of Company, and insuring team’s alignment with corporate policies and practices as it relates to HR processes, practices, policies and systems. Oversee the Mailroom/Courier Services department and provide special project leadership on various cross-functional projects (e.g. Security system upgrade, AGP LA launch, Pandemic Preparedness, Boutique & Bistro launch, etc).

Act as a strategic business partner with the Operations division and consultant on performance & employee relation issues, recruitment & retention, training and organizational development.
• Lead team of HR Generalists supporting the Operations division across five locations.
• Understand the business goals of the division and provide strategic input into the human capital aspects of those goals to minimize turnover, enhance morale, and maintain productivity.
• Work with management to resolve employee relation issues, approve promotions and pay increases, provide input on TRAC, CAP, and QOR.
• Identify organizational development needs and provide training options as needed.
• Oversee the hiring of 2,000+ seasonal employees to meet the 4th quarter business need.

Responsible for managing HR system needs for all of Company and insuring HR business processes are in alignment with Company policies, practices and processes.
• Oversee day-to-day administration of eTime and Peoplesoft at Company.
• Insure HR and employees follow appropriate policies and processes.
• Insure HR staff appropriately trained on Peoplesoft and Supervisors utilize eTime effectively.
• Corporate policies, practices, and processes adhered to.
• Maintain good working relations with MSSS and Peoplesoft HRIS team.

Provide direction and leadership to the HR Operations staff and the Mailroom Supervisor, including performance management, development, and mentoring.
• Ensure TRACs are complete and current; reviews completed on time.
• Feedback given timely and constructively.
• Monitor progress on key projects and tasks.
• Seek out opportunities to build relationships, provide feedback and mentor other HR staff members.
• Provide opportunities for professional development.
• Provide day-to-day management oversight to the Mailroom.
15% Effectively execute internal HR projects and initiatives.
• Oversee the annual budget process for HR and Administration including the various forecasts.
• Working with the AG Corporate HR team, lead efforts to identify the annual list of HR projects and assign responsibility and timeline for completion.
• Participate and provide leadership with regard to policy development and revisions, including the periodic update of the employee handbook.
• Within client group insure execution of corporate initiatives such as EOS and Code of Conduct.
• Conduct training classes as appropriate (e.g. REAL, Targeted Selection, New Emp Orientation).
• Assume other duties as assigned to support the rest of the HR team.

Participant in broad company initiatives as project leader or participant.
• Provide strategic and day-to-day project leadership to key initiatives impacting the business.
• Participate as project team member with responsibility for my functional area.
• Examples include but not limited to Company HR global transformation, the launch of Flagship Retail Store #3, the upgrade of Company’s electronic security system, Pandemic Preparedness Planning, and the launch of AG Boutique & Bistro.

Challenges:
As a leader within Human Resources, the position faces a variety of mental challenges. From analyzing individual employee issues to making decisions regarding broad, strategic human capital issues, this position must possess both strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills. The position also requires excellent communication skills, including listening and the recognition of nonverbal cues and strong interpersonal skills. Responding to changing priorities and building strong relationships with employees at ALL levels requires significant mental effort as well.

HR Operations includes five locations and more than 2600 employees during peak season. It is important to balance local needs with corporate direction—both from Middleton and Company. HR systems cut across the entire organization at all sites and requires integration and coordination with Company corporate offices, MSSS, and outside vendors (TALX, Hewitt, ADP). This position is often the intersection of a variety of touch points in the organization and needs to effectively balance the priorities, requests, requirements, and needs from the various parties involved.

Description:
Direct responsibility for mailroom and courier services at the corporate location. Total: 15
Number of employees reporting directly to position: 6
Total number of employees reporting to this position (either directly or through subordinate levels of supervision/management) Indirect = 9-20 depending on time of year
Due to the nature of Company’s seasonal hiring needs, the HR staff fluctuates during the year. For about 6-7 months of the year, the total of direct and indirect staff numbers approximately 15. We start adding staff in mid to late summer, and it peaks in November at around 26 total staff.

Oversee the preparation of and monitor the Corporate HR budget of $3.5 million and the HR/Administration budget of approximately $490,000.

Working with individuals from all levels of the organization from President to Housekeeper. Important to be able to manage conversations and communicate key messages in a calm, empathetic, but direct manner. Often coaching employees, managers or Vice Presidents in terms of their response to situations and issues. Important to be able to influence behavior without having the direct authority. As a member of a business unit, it is sometimes necessary to convince Corporate HR of the need for certain changes, or to convince HR staff at Company to accept Corporate direction.


Desired Experience
Applicable Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

BS or BA required. Masters degree or MBA preferred. Human Resources or related field emphasizing communication. PHR or SPHR preferred. 7-10 years Human Resources Experience with at least 5 years in a management role. High profile position with a broad impact on the organization. As a representative of HR, critical to maintain the highest standards in terms of integrity, confidentiality, and honesty. Key leader within the organization with the ability to influence employee behavior on a wide scale.
